The story of KOICA

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) was established in 1991 with a mission to contribute to common prosperity and promote world peace through inclusive, mutual development cooperation, leaving no one behind. Over three decades, KOICA has grown into an eminent global development cooperation agency, working across multiple sectors including agriculture, education, ICT, health, and environmental protection. With a presence in 48 overseas offices across 40 countries, KOICA has provided over $150 million in accumulated support to Rwanda alone. Through strategic partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, and international bodies, KOICA continues to realize global values and create mutual prosperity for partner nations. Today, KOICA stands as a leader in development cooperation, guided by the core values of the 5Ps: People, Peace, Prosperity, Planet, and Partnership.

2011
KOICA Rwanda Office Established

KOICA Rwanda Office was officially established on February 11, 2011, marking the beginning of comprehensive development cooperation initiatives with the Government of Rwanda.

Framework Agreement
2013
Framework Agreement Signed

The Framework Agreement on Development Cooperation was signed in August 2013, strengthening the bilateral partnership between Korea and Rwanda across multiple sectors.

30th Anniversary & Milestone Achievement

KOICA celebrated its 30th anniversary on April 1, 2021. In December 2021, accumulated support to Rwanda exceeded $150 million USD, reflecting decades of impactful development cooperation.

2024
Korea-Africa Summit

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda visited Seoul for the Korea-Africa Summit in June 2024, further strengthening bilateral ties between Korea and Rwanda through KOICA's ongoing development initiatives.
